Our retail package samples have arrived, and we are pleased with the results!
One of the factors that nearly stopped the development of the business altogether was the thought of generating more plastic waste on the planet due to the packaging itself, shipping packaging, and so on.
To reduce our footprint to the best extent possible, we sought out a Kraft+PLA+PBAT package and will be using similarly-constructed ship bags. Plant-based packaging will biodegrade in an industrial composting facility that explicitly accepts BPI-certified compostable packaging, and we feel it is a stride forward.
If the packaging finds it’s way to soil, home compost, the ocean, or the landfill, it takes months to decades to fully decompose; however, in comparison to traditional plastics such as PE that take 100 – 1000 years or more, it’s an option that gives us some peace of mind.
Yes, this adds to our costs, but we believe that doing the right thing now will pay dividends in the future – in more ways than one.
We have visions for other biodegradable options that we aim to incorporate as we grow larger and be a partner for positive change in the retail industry.
